How To Prevent Tooth Decay

Tooth decay is very common not only among kids but also among adults. Whenever you eat and drink, especially tooth decaythose that are sweet and rich in sugar, an acid attack occurs. A repeated acid attack may damage the tooth enamel. It will have a white spot while it continue losing its minerals. This is the early stage of tooth decay. It can still be prevented from happening though through the use of fluoride that helps the enamel to regain its lost minerals.

However, if it continues losing minerals, it gets weaker and weaker until it erodes and a cavity may start to form. A cavity is considered a permanent damage to a tooth, but it can be repaired by your dentist through filling.

Since your mouth is the gateway to your body, you should be conscious on the foods that you eat. Avoid eating sweet foods like chocolate and candies as well as carbonated drinks because the bacteria in your mouth use the sugar and starch to produce acid. Limit having snacks in between meals to give your teeth time to do self-repair. You have a so-called salivary protection but if you eat too often, your saliva will not be good enough to fight the bacteria from attacking your tooth enamel.
